Mani KarthikWhat would you do if you owned Problogger.net?

That’s more than exciting isn’t it?

I want to ask all you bloggers out there – What would you want to do honestly, if you were the admin of Problogger.net?

First I asked myself the question, and it was one of the toughest one that i faced recently.

I would..

- Replace Darren’s photo with mine and declare to all reader’s in a post that I’m taking over ProBlogger.
That would probably get me the most abused and foul-mouthed comments on the blogosphere. But seriously, it would be great fun! Wouldn’t it be?

- Ask every sponsor to send me US $1000000 for their spots to continue. :D

- Open new ad spots with bidding in public. Starting bid would be same as the number of readers on Problogger and minimum bid squares of it.

- Form a “Problogger Fans Association” around the world.

- Bribe someone at Google with the revenue generated and bring back the “text purchase” option(So that I can sell more links and make money).

- Write a review on John Chow.com

What do you think will you do if you owned Problogger.net?

(No. Am not out of my mind, just trying to unwind after writing some boring blogging tips :-p )

Hey, that’s actually a pretty cool question.

I think the answer is quite simple – I’d charge people $100 to guest post five times a week on it and pay others $20 to ghost write it for me twice a week.

Then I’d just sit back and watch the money roll in.

  2. Kevin says:

If I owned ProBlogger I would move the job section to it’s own domain. I am a huge fan of the job board there and I plan on using it to find more bloggers for new projects in the future and I’m confident that it would become the outright leader in finding jobs for bloggers if it was expanded. For example, the job board could be improved and expanded in it’s own domain and be branded in it’s own right. Employers could look at previous jobs that bloggers have got and both sides could leave positive and negative feedback about working with each other.

First thing I would do is quit my day job. Then I’d figure everything else out.

  4. Sara says:

What a fun question! I’d have to go with Kumiko on this one: I’d automate the whole thing except perhaps one or two posts a week. I’d also pay Darren to write 1-2 posts a month to retain as many readers as possible. After the fallout, there’s a chance that the promise of some Darren content (at irregular, unscheduled intervals) would keep people hanging around. Then, as long as the new content was quality, they’d stick around for the new stuff, too. Maybe.

  5. Guillermo says:

Easy: I’d hire Darren as a writer in exchange for 100% AdSense Income, get the profit on the rest of monetization they use and continue writing my own weblog… which is the one I really enjoy!

  6. Garry Conn says:

Darren would still have a job, but he would get a big pay cut.

I wouldn’t do much with it myself… why fix something when its not broke.

 As far as what I would do with Darren’s pay cut… I would have to say that my life would be like the famous Corona commercial on TV with the guy that uses his cell phone to rock skip it into the beech. :)

  7. Mani Karthik says:

Kumiko – that’s a great business model. lol

Sara, i think you are confused :D

Guillerimo, Darren runs no Adsense on Problogger. :(

Kevin, I think we should offer a prize for the best answer..what say?

  8. Baz L says:

    I would sell…I couldn’t take the pressure…

  9. Darren says:

nice post Mani. The more important question is – how much would you be willing to pay to own ProBlogger.net!

Actually – there’s some great ideas in the comments here – thanks everyone for some great food for thought!

  10. Marc Eilbeck says:

interesting idea for a post :)

  11. arowanna says:

i would sell it again

  12. Jaseem says:

I will sell it for a good price. You may ask why. Nothing in the Problogger.net is built for me. Many bloggers are mistaken to think “i would do better if I owned a huge blog”. The traffic and popularity of the blog will go down in no time. What happened when Darren took leave! Something there must be gone bad as the posts was not so enjoyable. I will sell problogger.net and use the money for my blog. Selling problogger.net is enough for getting popularity and the blog with which I can do the best is my own.

  13. vijay says:

hmmm.. Guys first look at Darren’s comment. He is very keen to know the price  like “Show me the money buddy?”

What if I own Problogger? I would definitely try to grow the community of bloggers. Will help lot of newbie bloggers and even try to bring the problogger to it’s new heights!!!
and Will give away lot of links like Darren

  14. I’ll start the bids for Problogger at $5. Do I hear $6?

I’d have to agree with kevin I’d move the job section to it’s own domain. I’d probably just redirect it to my own blog  The traffic would last for a few months then nobody would visit

    Imagine all the angry comments.

  15. $6.

I would have a little fun with it at first. I would make random postings about my bathroom schedule and eating habits. Then I would tell people the worst things you can do with your blog, like tell them that bright flashing pink banners are back in style.

Then, I would sell it. I’m not ready for the pressure of running a top-notch blog yet.

  16. Ken Dahlin says:

I would attempt to hire Darren Rowse to write for it full time, take some time to determine the earnings potential for the next 5 years and then sell it for at least that amount. If that seems like a cop out, it is.

  17. Linda Vernon says:

I would leave everything in tact but include an inspiring Quote of the day either inspirational or humorous or both. I would also find a good cartoonist to create customized cartoons for Problogger and include them on occassion. I would stick in some eye-catching photos now and then as well.

  19. I would thank all of the readers that have made Darren one of the most influential bloggers on the Internet. Than I would try to become one, myself.

  20. Dexter says:

Nice.. Article.. And it gor the attanetion of Darren itself.. I will try to respond via post at my blog
