Thanks for the insight Kevin. I started my blog about 3 months ago and since I’m new I try many different technics to link with other sites. I do find that a lot of blogs won’t even reply. Thanks again and I’ll keep on blogging.

Kevin when I link out I always think first of my readers and whether or not I think some will find the page on the other end of the link useful. At the same time I observe what happens after. Did I get a link back? Did the blogger I linked to stop by for a visit?

When someone links to me I always pay attention. For example you linked to one of my posts in your last link roundup. That link led me here and I’ve now subscribed and because I’m reading I’ll end up linking back to you more often.

My policy on my new “all-purpose” blog is that if you leave a comment with your website link, I’ll link back to your site in a follow up post (provided it isn’t a ‘bad neighborhood’).

On my software development blog most people I link to don’t allow pingbacks and are almost in comment shutdown isolation mode due to the amount of comment spam around these days. I still link to them anyway though. I don’t worry so much about them linking back. I just assume that if you give enough you’ll get in return, although it may not be from the same source.

Nice article Kevin. One thing that I like to do is provide direct links to other external posts that will expand on something only touched on in my post.

I always write honest testimonials for blogs that I find them useful to share and this technique works wonder My most recent backlink is from SmashingMagazine.com where they linked back to one of my post commenting on them
