I attended the Searchcamp at Chennai last weekend, and it was indeed a great experience being there. I wouldn’t want to get into the details of it but there’s something that would be of interest to other bloggers here.
I’d like to ask you a question. Being a blogger, how often and how well do you socialize?
I’d love to hear you saying - most often. Because, I think it’s really important these days.I mean honestly, just think about it.
There are thousands of blogs being created everyday and one reason why many of them don’t make it to the limelight is that they don’t let others know that their blog is unique.
Every blogger want their blog to be noted, be subscribed to and be talked about. And all you do is write “unique” content and wait for the magic to happen, which never happens.
Apart from the socialization happening online, I think it’s very important for bloggers to show up in public and mingle with others. And this is why camps like this one is important. It gives us a platform to talk to others, let them know what your stuff is. And let them decide if you are remarkable or not. Most often these “un conferences” are more of knowledge sharing rather than one-man shows. It helps everyone when they are allowed to put in their share of ideas and take away someone else’s.
So it’s PR or PR - which is more important? Confused? I’m talking about Public Relations or Page Rank?
I think it’s Public Relations. (PR will happen anyway).
So my “advice” to bloggers around the world is to create localized groups, at your area, bring in some drinks, and throw a party ..make it an informal get together for knowledge sharing. You will get more mileage than your year-old efforts online commenting on infinite number of blogs and waiting to get noticed. Believe me.
Some funny things happen at these camps too. Sometimes, when you are meeting people, you’ll get to know the guy whom you had a grudge on at the forums or e-groups. Or you’ll meet the guy who threw shit on you at the discussion forums. It’s fun isn’t it?
So give a break to your blogging, lock those keyboards and get out ! Meet some people.
Tips at attending conferences.
- Always carry a bunch of your business cards.
- If possible get a T-shirt with your logo/sitename printed evidently.
- Keep talking to people, the more you mingle the more the benefits. ![]()
