One thing not mentioned here is, to my mind, the most difficult hurdle of all ... and it can't be solved with a piece of software.

We adapt to and will read almost any level of writing, provided the author has something to say that interests us. But our eyes are attuned to very professional video and we live in a world of video since infant days when out mom's propped us up in front of Sesame Street.

Your video productiion must have a reason to be a video. So much of what I see being promoted as "video blogs" are just what the TV industry calls "talking heads". If you watch TV ... and most of us do ... just watch something as mundane as the local news and notice that the camera never stays fixed on the 'talent's head" for more thna few seconds at a time. Even if the commentator keeps talk, the view cuts away to the scene being talked about, people involved, even a map of the area, then comes back to the speaker only breifly .... and then on to something else.

Do _not_ just siy in front of a camera and talk ... it will fall flat ... because your viewers expect to see more thna your face.

This is a significant challenge to learn and do, but it's a secret to making video compelling. I was struck the other day watching several weekly vids that Darren Rowse is producing where he answers questions from readers. Listening to Darren Rowse answer questions is compelling ... looking at an unchanging view of Darren's head while he talks is not. Much better just to produce something like that in audio only ... or better yet, when talking, cut away to show what you are talking about.

Nice post.

I use a MAC but for some reason I have to convert my video that my camera takes to a supported format in order for iMovie to import it. The program I use is Visual Hub. Which also works great for converting video for iPod, ipHone or any other type of video you want.

Oh and by the way I'm not getting a kick back from Visual Hub. :-) I just think its great for video conversion.
