Elaine RamosBlogger’s Block

Have you ever heard of “Blogger’s Block?”

Well, that’s the term that I always use whenever I get spaced out before writing a blog entry. This is the same as writer’s block, the only difference is that I experience it in blogging.

I have different ways of coping when it comes to Blogger’s block. Here are some helpful tips when I find myself in a corner (literally) when blogging:

a. RSS - Ah! The joys of RSS. If ever I find myself really drained with wonderful ideas, I always turn to my RSS courtesy of Rojo. I usually feature one interesting news and quote at least 2-3 lines from it and add my opinion or insights about it and there you go! An instant blog post. Though that is the case, the way that you present such format should be done cleverly for your readers not to notice that you are in this kind of state.

b. Blog Visiting - There are two ways to maximize this method. First, there is the “Blog link day” wherein you visit different blogs of related topics and feature all of them in one blog post. Aside from making friends in the blogosphere, you also found a way to have a different blog post. The second method would be creating a blog entry as a reaction to the blog post that you just read. Just be sure that you acknowledge the source so that the blogger would be aware that you’ve written something about it.

c. Videos - This is usually my last resort. I don’t usually feature videos but there are times when my mind becomes quiet and no words are popping in my head. Thanks to YouTube, there is a selection of interesting videos for the topics that I am blogging.

Anyway, those are just some of my “quick cure” when experiencing Blogger’s Block. I am sure that you also have one of your own so please do share.

i think most bloggers suffer from blogger’s block is because their blogs are too laser-focused or they called NICHE. After blogging for even less than three months, you can see some of them started straining or straying off course. There is so much you can talk about a very particular topic. After that, you just rehash, inter-relate or approach it from another perspective, but the core issue is still the same. Not breaking any new ground.

One of my favourite ways to combat bloggers block is to use del.icio.us as an ideas notebook, adding links to things I want to write about as I go along.

Whenever I get stuck for something to say, I simply browse through my del.icio.us resource pool, and the ideas are soon swimming around.

Bloggers’ Block is a very common issue that can easily be solved. Over at my site, Slyvisions, I have compiled 10 things to do when you have nothing to blog about. If Blogging Tips doesn’t mind, here are the links to those articles.

I actually keep a long list of ideas which I add to whenever I have very inspired moments. Plus I also use the same ‘tricks’ like you with the RSS, etc.

More frustrating though I find it when I start writing an article, but then inspiration runs out right in the middle and you’re stuck and unable to finish it…

If you are interested in your topic and read a lot about it then writers block should be kept to a minimum. Of course, from time to time writers block will happen an for me, I’m a big fan of using stumbleupon. You find so many inspiring articles you wouldn’t have normally have bumped into :)
