To be a Great Blogger Read Great Blogs

Many people dream of becoming a well known blogger, but are not willing to put in the work to reach this goal. One of the best ways to increase your blogging skills is to read other blogs that you admire. So if your goal is to make money with your blog, why not check out Johnchow.com? He is the master, and one of the most well known bloggers in the world.

It is a shame that so many bloggers think they know everything. Guess what? Even the great John Chow reads other blogs on a regular basis. This allows him to stay up to date with the industry, and of course, find out what everybody else is blogging about. The bottom line is that great bloggers are never too busy to read other blogs that interest them.

To make this easy on yourself, compile a list of blogs that you admire. From there, visit these blogs everyday for ideas, feedback, and much more. In fact, you can make this even easier by subscribing to each blog’s RSS feed, if available. This way you will not have to jump around from site to site.

This is not to say that you should become a “copycat blogger.” If you do this, readers are going to see that you have nothing original to offer. Remember, people are going to visit your blog in order to read your opinions and views. They do not want to read rehashed posts from other blogs.

With over 70 million blogs to choose from, there is no reason that you should not be able to find a few that are related to your niche. Once you put together a list of blogs that you like, continue reading them on a daily basis. Soon enough, you will be the great blogger that newbies are turning to for inspiration!

It’s true reading well written content improves your writing, but getting down to businness and actually writing a blog yourself helps even more.

  2. Matt Jones is absolutely right. The only way to improve your writing skills is by writing. It’s like anything else, use it or… it gets really rusty.

On the other hand reading “great blogs” will certainly help you in effective ways of presenting what you write.

I certainly agree with both sides, but I have to say that in my opinion writing and then getting critique is more important. Blogging like anything takes practice. I actually just recently began a series of articles of which the first is on this very subject.

  4. Reading this post on your blog has already give me a few good ideas. I will subscribe to your blog rss feed. :)

  5. Yeah i think you have brought up an interesting point here. Although im fairly new to blogging, i read an average of 15 blogs per day, and guest post on 5 per day. So i read 3 times as many blogs as i actually post on.

As you mentioned, if you want to reach your goal of being a well-known blogger, or to even make a bit of money from blogging, its vitally important to be an active part of the blogging community.
