Recycle Old Blog Posts

Posted by on 17th Aug 2007 Blogging 5 comments

Are you having a difficult time coming up with a new blog post? If so, this type of writer’s block can really pose some problems; especially if your readers are expecting a new post. Luckily, there is one thing that you can do to solve this problem. Simply put, you can recycle an old blog post. While this may sound like cheating, it is anything but that. Not only are you giving your readers content that they enjoyed in the past, but you are also saving some time and stress for yourself.

With that being said, there are some keys to recycling old blog posts. First and foremost, you must go far enough back in your archives. After all, you do not want to recycle information that you just posted a week or so ago. Your readers will recognize this, and more than likely feel disappointed.

Even though there is nothing wrong with reposting an article as it was in the past, you will probably want to make some changes. Maybe you could tweak the article to match a situation that you have recently run into? Or perhaps there is a new angle or twist that you can add. If you repost a blog article word-for-word that you used many months ago, nobody will probably remember. But making a few changes is worth it to you, your readers, and of course, the search engines.

As you can see, recycling old blog posts is a great idea. Next time you are faced with writer’s block, consider digging up an old post and making it work to your advantage.

Interesting concept. I think word for word would be a bit too obvious and kind of like cheating, but a new angle with additional content would be fine I think.

Yeah I agree with Erik. Going back to cover the same subject is worthwhile and adding more to what you have already said.

It's definately worthwile doing this with posts at the start of your blogs life, particularly if you run a guide/tutorial type site, since a lot of good posts at the beginning do not get a lot of exposure because the blog does not have many readers.

The idea is alright but I think that it would be a better idea if you reposted a series of your favourite old posts. You could turn this into a small series of posts.

You could use this as an introduction for new readers to the blog etc.
