The majority of posts at Blogging Tips are published in advance. This allows me to plan the weeks schedule and make sure posts are spaced out as well.
I sometimes go back into posts I have set to publish in advance and make some changes. If you are using wordpress and you also do this then bear in mind that the post slug of the post will not change automatically if you change the title of the post. This does not concern those who use the default or numeric permalink structure in wordpress but it does concern those who use the date and name based extensions.
You can check what permalink structure you are using under the permalink section in the options area of your wordpress blog however you should be able to tell straight away what structure you are using by the extension of your blog posts
- The default structure will look something like http://www.blogname.com/?p=123
- The numeric structure will look something like http://www.blogname.com/archives/123
- And the date and name based structure will look something like
http://www.blogname.com/2007/08/15/post-title/
It’s the date and name based permalink structure I use with BloggingTips and it’s this type which you will need to manually change the post slug with if you change the title of your post. This is because the post slug is automatically generated by wordpress when you hit publish (that is, if you have not manually set a post slug page name).
The current post slug of this page is :
make-sure-you-check-the-post-slug-if-you-change-a-page-after-publishing/
but if I had to change the title of this post to ‘Check your post slug’, the title of the page would be changed right away however the post slug would not. Therefore, I would have to manually change it to
check-your-post-slug/
This is obviously just a minor invconvenience but if your a wordpress user who publishes posts in advance a lot it’s something you should bear in mind next time you edit the title of your post

Glad people like you are out there, giving away these tips. I imagine I'll need all the help I can get when I switch over.
Kevin, i prefer the custom permalink /%postname%/
eg. http://www.sitename.com/post-title/
btw, you have the evil subscriber number "666"
Wallace – yeah, better watch out!!!
