Darren mentioned a few days ago that Pro Blogger would be getting a new design. In the last few hours he has switched to the new theme and I must say, I’m a big fan. The size of the font is much bigger so it’s easier to read the posts and colour scheme works well too.
See the official announcement about the new design here

thanks Kevin - appreciate the kind words. We’re getting there with it - lots of little bugs to work through
Kevin | August 9th, 2007 at 6:32 pm #
Yeah I didn’t realise at first that the whole site hadn’t been merged with the new design. I’m sure you will get everything ironed out in the next day or so, 301 redirects are a wonderful thing!!!
Glen Allsopp | August 9th, 2007 at 7:22 pm #
You know you’ve made it when people blog about your theme
pearl | August 9th, 2007 at 9:25 pm #
Are you related to Darren in some way Kevin?
I ask that ‘cuz I am a huge fan of his too and often quote him or talk about him but he didn’t even reply to my mail let alone coming to my site to comment
and I usually find myself defending him saying ‘probably the reason he doesn’t respond is ‘cuz he is very busy!!’ Just wondering!!
Actually I hadn’t even noticed his comment when i started writing here ‘cuz his avatar isn’t there, but then saw my comment was #4, so scrolled up lol
anyways, I also noticed all the pages are not coming up clearly .. and it’ll probably take some time for us to find everything we are so used to seeing right there!! Gosh, thats an awfully long comment!!
Kevin | August 9th, 2007 at 9:32 pm #
No we are not related…but we have the same haircut!
Darren has commented here a few times whilst other times I have referenced a post of his he has not came by. You have to appreciate his situation. He has 30,000 subscribers and gets linked to from blogs dozens of times a day. It just isn’t possible for him to reply to every post so I wouldn’t take it personally
pearl | August 9th, 2007 at 9:43 pm #
Oh no no
I am not taking it personally at all… it would be my loss, wouldn’t it?
I’m cool!! It just happened a few times in the last few days, whichever blog I ended up, he had already commented there
Mani Karthik | August 10th, 2007 at 1:35 am #
Ha ha, Pearl - Kevin is lying.
He’s paid him to comment here on BT.
Forget the haircut, here some exclusive news for you.
I’ve heard rumors that Darren was actually planning to put a spider man mascot just like Kev, on his new design, but finally due to “un-disclosed reasons”, dropped it.
Kev, waiting for your response.

Darren’s blog is nothing to shout about, most of his content is no different from some of the other meta-bloggers, like Blogging Tips. Very informative and he writes with a pleasant tone and non-confrontational or even at times, non-commital!Just read some of his readers’ comments and you have a better idea. A lot of casual replies and compliments.
Darren | August 10th, 2007 at 5:41 am #
Pearl - yes I have a policy of only commenting on people with the same haircut - it’s the new ‘hair list’ (like the A list but for balding guys).
Seriously - I’m very sorry for not replying to your email. I’m trying to find it now but I fear that it may have disappeared into the vortex that is my 5000 unanswered emails from the last few months - I get around 3500 a week at present so it is pretty crazy. What I have done though is subscribe to your RSS feed - so now I’ll at least be reading your content daily (or every second day on weeks like this!).
Mani - yes, Kev does pay well.
pearl | August 10th, 2007 at 5:44 am #
@Mani
Actually I had heard that rumor too but I wasn’t up to saying that out loud here
who knows? lol
but seriously, after seeing Kevin’s pic, I wanna believe the hair story more
pearl | August 10th, 2007 at 5:59 am #
Oh Gosh…:D Darren .. we musta been writing comments here at the same time….. and I was just playing really
of course I know you are inundated with emails …
but really honestly, I knew Kevin’s content is superior but now with your policy on hair, I should just give up
thank you soo much for subscribing … now I am gonna have to come up with some good content…. lol
take care… problogger is one of the tabs on my home page and it rocks
kher Cheng Guan | August 10th, 2007 at 10:42 am #
Wasn’t I right awhile ago about some of Darren’s readers?
The Buxr Widget | August 10th, 2007 at 11:44 am #
Not a lot is being said about Darren’s move from purely “money making blog” to “money making blog portal”.. The home page is much more like a resource page than a blog. It’s really an interesting move on Darren’s part to differentiate himself from all the other money making blogs.
Kevin | August 10th, 2007 at 12:51 pm #
kher Cheng Guan - I disagree about your comment on ProBlogger. Pro Blogger has been online for 3 years and he has posted between 3 and 4 thousand articles. If the authority of a genre with 30,000 subscribers isn’t worth shouting about then what is? I’m curious :):)
Buxr - Although problogger has ‘making money’ in the title tag, I do not think that problogger is or ever has been solely a making money online blog. The site has covered every blogging related topic possible over the last few years. Also, I don’t think that Darren needs to make himself stand out from the crowd
pearl | August 10th, 2007 at 2:08 pm #
Kevin… I don’t know what was said about Darren’s readers before but yes they do compliment him, and thats because they admire him for his competency and decency! of course you can collect bits of material here and there, but problogger is all encompassing!
And the humbleness he displays despite 30,000 subscribers, not putting anyone else down… so what seems to be the problem shouting about it?
Kevin | August 10th, 2007 at 2:12 pm #
Pearl - It was kher Cheng Guan who said that problogger was nothing to shout about, my comment was in reply to this comment
pearl | August 10th, 2007 at 2:26 pm #
i read that :):) I thought may be Kher said something before this conversation and i was being a sarc…lol I addressed you because kher was addressing you but making a reference about me
anyways, Mani said I need to work on my titles.. so my next post should be - we love problogger .. hows that?
jamy | August 10th, 2007 at 8:58 pm #
Wow, my most admire blog Sifu (master in Chinese), that is not very fair :”Pearl - yes I have a policy of only commenting on people with the same haircut - it’s the new ‘hair list’ (like the A list but for balding guys).”
This is the second times it has been suggested to me on hair style
: http://www.seaykopitiam.com/2007/08/05/100-tips-from-you-surprise/
“1. Shave your hair clean and bald before uncle wake up. Surprise him by closing up your face when he wake up. ;p”
Just not fair :)!

Kher - Your comment about problogger is not true. If there is anything called authority in the blogsphere - then Darren is sure among one of those who will be in the top.He writes in simple easy to understand language - that’s a good thing right? It means he understands his readers well and is trying his best to connect to them.
I’ve thoroughly enjoyed Problogger articles and at the same time is jealous because every keyword i research on - problogger has a top SERP result! Darren sure is an inspiration to millions of bloggers too. Though many don’t admit it - they copy him at one point or another.
I encourage you to read Darrens articles if you are serious about blogging.

Yeah kind of funny I’d feel called upon to defend Darren … as if he needed it from me, kher Cheng Guan
Seriously, I wonder if you would care to amplify a little more what you mean by “nothing to shout about”? I’m not putting you down or picking a fight over your opinion … you are certainly entitled to it … but just a throw away insult like that begs some explanation, or so I opine.
My opinion is that Problogger _is_ something to shout about for the obvious reasons … stats, worthwhile content. Stability … reports on new trends but no wild “wood swings” like “follow me”, “don’t follow me” flip-flops.
Very motivational content … look at the current 31 day article series … I’d defy anyone to read and follow the suggestions there and not increase income … and lastly Darren’s lack of arrogance and unfailing willingness to help.
That’s my two cents. Your viewpoint, sir?
Mani Karthik | August 14th, 2007 at 10:52 pm #
That’s music to ears Dave!
