Kevin MuldoonFeed M8 – Make your blog mobile ready

I received an email on Tuesday from a website called FeedM8. The site makes allows your blog to be read more easily on mobile phones. There are a lot of services like this on the web but since they have taken the time to email me directly about this I thought I would post about them :)

Once you have signed up you can add your blog details. You can then see an example of how your feed will look like on a mobile. Here’s what the Blogging Tips feed looks like on a mobile.

Additional features

If you look closely at the mobile feed for Blogging Tips in the image above you should see that there is an advert at the top of the list. Blog owners make a % of the commissions generated with these advertisements. I have no idea as to what kind of money you can make but it’s a welcome addition. You can check the page views your blog has received via mobiles (you can also see what revenue you have generated).

Heres a screenprint of the stats area :-

In order to promote the mobile version of your site, FeedM8 offers a range of mobile phone subscription images to place on your blog. Here are some examples :

Summary

I haven’t had a chance to use this extensively but they seem to have a good setup (albeit, it’s a bit basic).

I don’t believe this site will become hugely popular in the blogosphere though as

  1. Nearly every new mobile phone is being built with an RSS reader.
  2. When feedburner adds something like this it will probably be more popular, more advanced and better received.

It only takes a minute to sign up to try the service out so I would still encourage you all to give it a try :)

Never heard about this service. Making blog compatible for mobile is getting more and more popular. I’ll try this feature.

    Interesting.

For a good three years, my only Internet connection (unless I dragged my laptop to where free wi-fi was availble) was by cell phone. In fact, until just recently, almost all of my blogging was done via mobile (which resulted in hideous formatting and short posts). The amount of sites that were unavailable to me as a result of design flaws drove me up a wall, and my wireless provider (Verizon) is kind enough to pick and choose which sites I can interact with (previously I had used Sprint with Opera Mini) – Blogger & WP commenting were out, and Netflix became a constant guessing game as I was unable to access their page and never remembered to use alternative access in time to update my queue.

Even with an Internet connection now, I choose to use my cell for certain things – perfect to use while waiting in a line, if I decide to get something to eat and forget a book, or if I can’t get to sleep and don’t want to get out of bed.

  3. I’m still not using RSS on my computer

Guess I’ll have to upgrade my phone too.

  4. TextAdSearch says:

I can’t understand why anyone would want to read a blog on a mobile phone. Those screens are tiny.

I am surprised that there is enough demand to warrant a specialist service, maybe I’m just out of touch.

  5. Preeti says:

Very nice but I can’t use it in India… :(
