I received this email on 23rd July.
Hi Kevin,
I though you would be interested to know a post I’ve written about my
experience paying JohnChow $400 to have my blog reviewed.http://www.sabahan.com/2007/07/23/is-it-worth-spending-400-to
-have-your-blog-reviewed-at-johnchowcom-heres-my-experience/Regards,
Gaman
I checked out the post at the time but I forgot to include it in this weeks links roundup. I’m not 100% sure but I suspect Gaman emailed me pretty soon after he published the post as there were no comments at the time (there’s currently 26). I assume he emailed me because I wrote about my review on John Chow’s blog in my post ‘My experience with paid reviews‘.
The post itself is a pretty good read, Gaman looks at the change in his income and traffic since the review. Gaman has clearly been promoting this post a lot the last few days and it seems to have worked so hats off to him
Not only has he been emailing blogs about it, he has been promoting the post by advertising directly on blogging related blogs through adsense.
Yesterday I noticed that he was advertising this thread on all adsense areas on Blogging Tips.
Underneath the first post on the home page

At the top of the Blogging Tips Forums

It’s been done before and it will be used again
Targeting other blogs through adsense is a good way to get attention to a page. One of the most successful campaigns using this technique was by John Chow himself, he was advertising his blog at Pro Blogger using the phrase ‘I love Darren Rowse‘. As I mentioned in the title above, it’s been done before and it will be used again. It may be an old technique but it remains one of the most effective ways of using Google Adsense for promotion.
Gaman, if your reading this, my hat is off to you. You certainly grabbed my attention and I hope you get a good return with this campaign

Gaman, you took the risk and you are well rewarded. Congrats and I’m now off to your post.

i really no idea why he would spend 400 bucks to buy a review and not pay someone for the wordpress theme design.

His AdWords technique worked on me (I clicked to read the article) and his review of the John Chow Effect was great. Hrm… John Chow review budget, John Chow review AdWords budget… I hope he’s earning back what he spends!

I’m actually curious what it costs to directly target a blog in that way. Anyone have experience doing it? I’ve never tried it out myself…

I guess it would work out quite cheap, what with only targeting low demand keywords.

I guess buying a review on JohnChow.com gets you more than just a review, but a lot of buzz and links around in blogosphere.
I remember, I found Kevin and BloggingTips.com through the review he bought on JohnChow.com
And I am glad i did

Kevin, thanks for the mention.
Cash Quests: Yes I did send you the email because you have written a rather long review about JC.
TechZilo: Yes - I guess I am taking advantage of the buzz while it’s still buzzing

I saw this review as well, and it was the first of it’s kind that I have seen. These are the things that bloggers need to learn how to do to differentiate themselves and add value..
