A common graphic I see on a new bloggers sidebar is the PageRank button, a simple graphic which displays the pagerank of the blog. I’ve even noticed this on blogs who have a pagerank of 0!
Here are two examples of these buttons :

I don’t think theres any need to display your pagerank on your blog sidebar. The reason is simple, there are only two people who care about your blogs pagerank, you and your blog sponsors. Your readers do not care if your blog has a pagerank of 0 or 6, it makes no difference to them. Currently BloggingTips has a pagerank of 0, does this bother you? (I hope it doesn’t!!!).
If you are going to display your pagerank somewhere on your blog I recommend adding it to your advertising information page as most potential advertisers will be interested to know what it is. Other than that I wouldn’t display the pagerank anywhere else on your blog as the only one who wants to see it is you
Adding this kind of button to your sidebar does nothing but clutter it up in my opinion (I’ll talk about blog clutter more tomorrow).
Do you display your pagerank proudly on your blog? If so, what is the main reason for displaying it so prominently?

Kevin, I agree. Showing PR is not needed. People see only blog content but not PR. There are blogs with PR 0 and good content(your’s). On the other hand there are blogs with PR 3 and 4 with poor content. So there is no need to show blog stats. Also I wrote a blog post about showing other blog stats like Alexa, Technorati and subscribers in my blog. I think you won’t mind me sharing it.

I honestly see no harm in putting a button on your page as thats what they have been made for. If your talking about web development or Money Making i bet alot of your visitors will know what it means and may allow your content to be taken more seriously because your blogs got a high pagerank - you know what your talking about.
If i had a pagerank 6 i would display it if my site was directed to those who knew what it meant. Other than that i guess there is no real need but still.. Most web users know if it’s greater than 0 then it must stand for something good.

I agree too. Anyway most people already have the Alexa toolbar that will show it for them. Like you said Kevin, nobody cares except the advertisers (but I’m sure they already have THEIR way of finding out the Alexa ranking).

How very true. Personally, PR does concern me but that’s why I have the Alexa and Google toolbar running. There’s no need to have it on a site also as if people cared about it, they too would be running the toolbars. Having it on the site is a bit superfluous in my opinion.

Wait, wait a minute. You only started this blog in March and you got all these readers already? I’m jealous.
Usually pagerank is updated at different intervals whenever Google feels like. With your blog the way it is now, I think you’ll easily hit PR 4 if not 6.
Anyone wanna make a friendly bet?

I se eno harm in it except it does cause some clutter. Depend son the blog though and if one is proud of it go right ahead.

I would say that there is no need to put up the PR banner.
The reason is simple, those who are interested in your PR should already have Google tool bar installed already. Those who do not have the tool bar installed, simply do not care

I don’t really see the point, because the only people who would care about it (webmaster type people) are likely to have some form of toolbar telling them the PR or can just look it up themselves.
Especially as it only changes every few months as well, if it were a thing that changed daily or even weekly, having it on a site could help see changes, but as it changes so infrequently I don’t see the point. Just my thoughts

That space could be used for another ad.

i agree very much to this. there’s no point in boasting because nobody except you and your sponsors care about it plus the space could be use for more adverts.
