I got an email yesterday from Text Link Ads informing me that the text links were not being displayed on one of my sites. It turned out to be a blank file caused by moving server a few days ago. I fixed it pretty quickly but after 6 or 7 hours my stats were not reflecting the ads being live so I dedicated to give them a call. The stats problem was quickly resolved so I asked a few questions about the Text Link Ads InLinks Option, the inlinking system I talked about last week.
At the moment I have sold one ad which is hardly encouraging, however I was told that I will probably not see more ad purchases until Blogging Tips has a page rank. He told me the sort of price I can expect for a page rank of 2 up to 6. Unfortunately, he has also asked if i do not post these amounts (I will say that I was pleased with the amounts he stated).
As he put it, the security of the advertising medium is very important to the advertisers. By that they mean they do not want to display publishers who are using this as competitiors will steal a lot of the competition. It’s not something I’ve really thought about but if they are worried about it I’m sure it’s a problem advertising networks have to deal with.
I wish I could talk more about this but they have asked me not to talk too much about the ins and outs of the program because it is on an invitation only basis at the moment (I’m not sure how strict they are with this since Blogging Tips was accepted with a PR of 0). What I will say is this, if your blog has a few hundred pages with good page ranks, you should be able to make more money using inlinks than using their regular text link ads system. This is assuming you can sell ads on 10-20% of your pages and this could be a big assumption.
I am going to keep using this for another month or two. Once the blog gets a page rank I should be able to see how good this advertising medium is. Unfortunately, if TLA don’t change their terms and conditions I may not be able to talk about it which I believe is a real shame because all I’m trying to do is give bloggers some basic info on this. Regardless, I’ll post another update in around 2 months.
thanks,
Kevin

Thanks for the update Kevin. I think it is a good option. But do they check only PR. Do they consider the traffic? Waiting to know more from you in 2 months.

I don’t believe traffic is tracked.
Here’s my understanding of it :
* TLA crawl your blog and make a list of keywords they believe would interest advertisers
* They present a list of keywords to the advertiser with a note of the page rank the keyword link is on
* Only after purchase does the advertiser find out what website he/she is advertising on
* Publisher gets paid 50% of fee, just like TLA’s regular program

Ah, you’ve finally moved servers I can see - when you were between I could visit your main page, but trying to get to an article would just send me back to the main page. I can comment again!!
I just recently joined TLA (as both an advertiser and a publisher). I also got offered the new inlinks option (and decided to decline) - but it makes me wonder if they are offering it to everyone who signs up or only a certain percentage of people.
Anyway, I’m curious to see how my venture into TLA goes. I don’t think I’ll be getting a very good page rank this time around, so I guess I’ll have to wait and see what happens…

Never mind - it won’t be long until you get a page rank. I’ve tagged you as part of a game I’ve been dragged into - instructions are here and it would be great if you could participate: http://cathlawson.com/blog/?p=111

Hi Kevin,
This may be a daft question but what is an inlink?

The first rule of fight club is that you don’t talk about fight club
While I can see the need for hush hush on the prices, I do not see a reason to act like the entire program is a state secret.

Kevin,
you are breaking the NDA that you confirmed to TLA, your business partner that you hope to make a lot of $$ with… how ignorant can you be to piss of your partners T&C and believe to make big bucks with it.
I told you that your talkative way of revealing trade secrets you are not supposed to reveal will harm you more than it benefits your “great” blog
again, you piss of partners & clients and dare to complain that I don’t reveal my own id? forget that man - you already threatended me to reveal my business to Google for buying links - what do you except?
I value my privacy, and so should you also care about the privacy of your readers, partners and clients and stop playing “brave blogger”
anyway, I stop wasting my time with you here. TLA is after you anyway now.

If people want a rough idea they can always play around with the pricing calculator that TLA provide on their site - to see what range of prices they can expect based on their existing websites.

this seems a rather lame effort.
and how much does it hurt the credibility of the blog?quite a lot, i guess.

I noticed that BloggingTips was down yesterday. Was it some problem on my part, or is it that BT was down?

GoddessCarlie - I believe the DNS took a long time to update on some ISP’s. For me, the move was quite smooth and everything was back to normal but I believe some places in the States were still accessing the old server up until a day or so ago.
Tara - There is a description of what an inlink is in my first post, If you’re still unsure send me an email or buzz me on msn and I’ll explain it better
thelinker - Trade secrets - Are you joking me? They accepted bloggingtips which has a page rank of 0, how strict do you think they are with accepting publishers. It’s hardly a trade secret, everyone knows about this. If you take the time to read my post you will realise I have spoke directly to TLA about these posts so if you have a major problem with this I recommend taking it up with them.
TechZilo - Can you clarify your comment please
Are you saying the credibility of Blogging Tips has been hurt because of this post?

I have this program on a few websites. I have not seen a lot of action on most of the sites yet. I have spoken with TLA as well and it seems they are still very excited about it.
I am told that the results will be showing up soon.
SELaplana | July 17th, 2007 at 3:21 am #
if this is true, i hope they will not sell links to porn and gambling sites.
TechZilo | July 19th, 2007 at 6:02 am #
@Kevin: No, I meant that the credibility of any site would decrease when they use Inlinks or Kontera….We dont want ads all over the place…We prefer it in sidebar or top.
Of course, if it brings you serious money, then dont mind my criticism

Thanks Kevin, it makes sense now
