The downtime i experienced last week with my current host was the final straw. Shortly afterwards I started looking into which hosting company to transfer to. Eventually I decided to go with WiredTree. I read a lot of good things about the company and so far the support has been excellent so I’m sure I’ve made the right choice.
The package i went for has the following :
Hardware
Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 ** (Free Upgrade to E6420) **
2GB ECC DDR2
Primary Disk:
250GB SATA II 7200 RPM 16MB Cache
Backup Drive:
250GB SATA II 7200 RPM 16MB Cache
Additional Options
Control Panel : cPanel / WHM
Public Port Speed : 100 Mbs Public
Private Port Speed : 100 Mbs Private
Public Bandwidth : 2000 GB Transfer
Support Services
Fully Managed
24×7 Phone and Helpdesk
24×7 Proactive Monitoring
Proactive Updates
ServerShield Hardening
$299/month
$0 setup
I decided to pay $199 for a setup as it drops the monthly fee down to $269.
I have submitted a support ticket to transfer all sites to my new server so there may the blog might be down briefly. I apologise for any inconvenience this may cause
Fingers crossed that this is the end of my hosting woes!
Thanks
Kevin

my.. my.. that’s a VERY strong server,
now you only need to Tweak PHP and Apache and you’ll be Digg/Slashdot proof..

Considering how much you are paying for your server and how much you intially payed for this domain, it must be generating some good income.

No - BloggingTips hasn’t made me one cent as yet. Hopefully that will change soon, I chose not to sell any text links, reviews or advertisements until the blog aquired a page rank.
I run a lot of other websites though

When you have a dedicated server that means you are doing very well. U R MY IDOL! If I ever get to the point of needing a dedicated server, I’ve made it!
Cratch that, didn’t see the last comment. What you are not making any money and you are paying over $200 per month. Wow! You have money to BURN!
Dude you need some ads on this site. What are you waiting for. Forget about waiting of Google PR. It’s funny you have a Google PR of 0 and your rank on Alexa is good. I started a blog in Feb 07 and it already has a Google PR of 3 already but no where close to the traffic you are getting. What’s up with that!

What other hosting services did you consider?
Ram | July 11th, 2007 at 12:32 am #
Kevin, I feel like crying when I see how much you spend for your blog. But surely this blog is going to get a lot of money to you. Since it is predicted a PR 6, you will be having a great time.

I’d be interested to know about your other sites. I have a site on blogging, but it doesn’t make any money, it’s other sites which do that.

Michael - I spoke to Rackspace on the phone but they couldnt host me because I have some gambling related websites.
Ram - I hope your right
Tejvan - My portfolio has changed a lot over the last few years but my gambling related websites have been pretty consistent for me. I also have some various other websites like a shopping directory and an arcade etc

Any way you slice it, $269 per month is a lot of bones for hosting. But at the same time, if your income supports it, then it could just be a drop in the bucket. Gambling sites, eh? Something to think about..

$269 is roughly what most people pay for a dedicated server, with big companies anyways. I could never go back to a VPS, the ability to roll back the server in the event of something bad happening is too good.
