I would love to disagree with you. Though it's a common "belief" that meta tags are no longer considered important by Google – I would not agree because of the below two reasons.

- If you had no description in your META tag – forget google – a user who sees your page in the SERPS would easily consider clicking on your competitor with a description, sadly the guy below you. I somehow don't like that.Your point is too similar to what i said but i sick to META tags not custom tags – which are good.

- Google isn't the only SE around.

"Meta tags are extremely important."

Err, no they really aren't. It can be useful having a custom description for each post as this is often the text that accompanies your page if you do show up in the SEs for a particular term. You'll get very little value from meta keywords though.

Nice advice. I have several friends who always ask for advice on Blogger … this will help them.

BTW, if you are on Blogger now and thinking of moving, I moved a blog last year to its own domain with no problem and several others have moved with no serious PageRank/traffic hits. In fact, traffic usually rises. Best of luck whatever the choice
