Top commentators list removed from Blogging Tips
Site News I posted in June about how the Blogging Tips top commentator list was being abused by a small number of people leaving pointless messages in order to break into the top commentator list In the last day or so I got over 50 comments from two people who left dozens of one line comments in dozens of posts. These posts added nothing to the discussion and some were completely unrelated to the post in question. Granted they did this at the end of the ...

If for some reason your browser isn’t displaying the video below, you can find the original video here. Get the Flash Player to see this player.

Software & Programs For those who have been hiding in a cave the last 10 years, vBulletin is a PHP bulletin board and argubly the best discussion software available on the internet. I have been using it since around 2001 for building communities. I read about vBulletin building a blog into future versions of their software a while ago but I assumed that it was still quite some time away from launch. I received an email from them today about the release of version ...

Blogging News I sometimes forget that there are goverments around the world who do not like the notion of free press. I was reminded of this last week with the news that Malaysia are going to be using anti-terrorism laws against bloggers who insult Islam or the king. You can read the full article about this event on the BBC website here. Raja Petra Kamarudin, editor of the blog Malaysia Today, had to turn himself into police last week because of criticism he ...

Blogging When I first spoke about guest authors posting at Blogging Tips I advised readers that authors will sometimes have a different opinion from myself on some topics but I was of the opinion that it could a good thing. Mani Karthik posted an article here last week entitled ‘If you are reading this on an RSS reader – your’e a loser!‘ which has made me think more about this topic. Mani talked about the post yesterday and mentioned ...

Blogging I’m sorry to disappoint all you list fiends out there but I will not be writing a top 10 list in this post. Instead, I want to discuss the ‘Top X’ blogging phenomenon!! At the very top of the list is the ‘Top 10 mistakes new bloggers make‘ post with 135 incoming links. Since the June 2007 competition post ...

Blogging All of us would agree that the total number of comments on a blog is made up of less than 20-30% of the total number of visitors on the entire blog. Even the blog which receives the most number of comments(Problogger ,SEOMoz or any other blog), is able to convert only it’s 25% of total traffic into active comenters. The total unique hits to total number of comments from unique ips is the proof for this. Comments are one of the most surest ...

Blogging Tara from Graphic Design Blog left me an interesting question in my self review post yesterday. Tara asked I would also be interested in reading a post about how you plan/or don’t plan your blog long term(like a business plan) – eg. Within 2 months I plan to have x visitors, X articles, marketing plan – initial and long term (I realise that you won’t want to give all your secrets away but a generic outline). Basically – ...

Promote your blog I received this email on 23rd July. Hi Kevin, I though you would be interested to know a post I’ve written about my experience paying JohnChow $400 to have my blog reviewed. http://www.sabahan.com/2007/07/23/is-it-worth-spending-400-to -have-your-blog-reviewed-at-johnchowcom-heres-my-experience/ Regards, Gaman I checked out the post at the time but I forgot to include it in this weeks links roundup.
