Kevin MuldoonI recommend upgrading to Wordpress 2.2.1

I read a week or so ago that Wordpress has released version 2.2.1 but i didn’t think it was worthwhile upgrading so soon after updating to 2.2.0. However, after reading Chris Stark’s post on the subject i decided that it was worth upgrading to the latest version.

As per Chris’s post :

Here are some of the bug updates provided by this new version:

  • Widget compatibility issue fixes
  • Atom feed fixes
  • Improvements to Page and Text Widgets
  • XML-RPC fixes Widget layout fixes for IE7

Here are some of the major security problems that were fixed:

  • Remote shell security issues with PHPMailer
  • Attribute issues in Default Theme
  • Remote SQL injection in XML-RPC

Upgrading shouldn’t take you longer than 10 minutes so i recommend putting the upgrade on your to do list :)

  1. When you back and planted at home Kevin you know I will be the first in line to beg you for some help getting my blog redesign up…. starting with the upgrade…..

I know it needs to be done

  2. Kevin says:

no worries stephen. ill be able to do the upgrade for you. ill be back next monday but give me a few days to get settled. :)

 – I think you’ll have a serious case of post-holiday blues, Kevin!

I’ve just installed WordPress 2.2.1 on my blog, and everything went smoothly, but I’m a little bit disappointed that they don’t yet seem to have opened up the API for the wp-core widgets.

I quite liked working with dynamic widgets through the presentation screen, but since I went to 2.2, I’ve had problems, and have had to change my sidebar layout again.

They should have made the wp-core widgets backwards compatible with the old widget plugin.

  4. I wish I could really do it in 10 minutes like you said Kevin. This is the first time I’m gonna attempt an upgrade and I’m freaking scared. Have backed up my files, folder & database and it took me half a day to learn all those steps!

Now, the question is when to proceed with the next step! Lol.

  6. Thanks Kevin, that’s so awfully nice of you to offer. Our schedule is a bit off. I’m on traveling this week and will be back next. So, I’ll drop you a line when I’m back and see whether we can somehow match our schedulen& work on my upgrade.

    Thanks again, appreciate the offer.
