I have been thinking about video blogging the last month or so. Stephen Welton dropped my name when posting about an upcoming blog called Tutorial TV so i thought it was as good a time as any to ask you guys about it.
Would you guys be interested in me making some videos for Blogging Tips? I’m not talking about a daily basis however it would be good to reply in person on some issues. I have to be completely honest about this though - i’ve never did anything like this before and if i record a video and i think it sucks, its doubtful i’ll post it - haha
I’m sure it will be ok though - the first few videos will no doubt be sucky but after that i believe i’ll be a bit more comfortable with it.
I need to look more into it. I’d probably host the video externally via a site like YouTube or Revver. YouTube would probably send more traffic here however it tends to attract a lot of idiots as well. Take a look at some of the offensive, abusive and downright racist comments that get left on some videos to see what i mean (I cant remember if video authors have the option to switch off comments).
Anyways, thought it would be good to get some feedback from you guys on the subject. Im not 100% on whether to do it yet but when i get home and i have more time im willing to give it a try ![]()

Well you know that I would be utilizing your video content for the Blogging Tips Resource category at Tutorial.tv.
I think that it is a good option. It may even drive more of your RSS readers to visit a bit more often because obviously you won’t be seeing the video content there.
We are in some real need for great content.
What is good software to use to create video tutorials on screen?
Camtasia?

If you use Revver, you make money - that’s a plus.
Video blogging keeps visitors on your site longer - that’s a plus.
The drawback? You have to press play to get the content. I skim and scan a lot of posts to get the main point of the post, but you can’t skim and scan a video. For those of us who don’t have the time to press play, we can’t enjoy any content at all.

I’ve been video blogging (Or vlogging) since I launched my blog a couple of weeks ago. I’ve recorded and posted two vlogs so far, and I must admit, it has been really hard.
My readers have seemed to enjoy the vlogs (I’m pulling in around 10 comments per vlog, which is great considering I get 20-30 visitors a day), but it is a lot harder than I first expected.
Things often go wrong. The latest vlog which I recorded on Thursday took the whole afternoon of recording and re-recording just so get to something close to “good”.
If you do decide it is something you want to try, you may want to purchase “Vlog It!”. http://www.adobe.com/products/vlogit/ It doesn’t cost much, and it allows you to create videos using a very simple drag and drop interface, and also includes an autocue.

im getting a new laptop in a few weeks and im gonna get one with a 1.3 mb webcam so i may just use that. hopefully the quality is ok - ill look more into it when i start doing the videos.
kumiko - unfortunately you cant skim however the main content of the site is still gonna text - the videos should complement the posts, not replace them
stepehen - yeah thats good. the more traffic the better

I use my 1.3 mb built in webcam, Kevin (On my Acer TravelMate 8200).
The quality isn’t too bad, although when it is coverted to Flash and the file size is reduced (About 10mb for a six minute video) the quality reduces a lot.

You should venture into the light and get a MacBook or MacBook Pro, come on guys it will be ok. Go to your local computer shop and give the video tools that come included a whirl.
LMAO
