Kevin MuldoonMovable Type is free again

Written by Kevin Muldoon from System0 on June 16, 2007

I came across this post today which brought to my attention that Movable Type is now free again. I considered this platform a few years ago for a project but was reluctant to use it because it didn’t seem to be worth paying for. Perhaps i was wrong but i guess it doesn’t matter now because it is now free to download.

Im perhaps a few weeks late with this news but im sure a few of you missed this as well. The announcement regarding this switch can be found here and you can download the free version here.

Quote a lot of big news websites still use Movable Type so if your looking for a blog platform and you dont want to use wordpress, it’s worth giving it a try :)

I used MT years ago before they changed their format to licences and such. I really like it. However, when the licences came, I moved over to wordpress and haven’t looked back. Sometimes I find myself getting a bit confused with WP’s templates as I’m confusing them somehow with MT - don’t ask me what! For example sometimes I’ll be looking for something then suddenly I’ll realise that was something from MT. Anyway, I’m curious to see how MT is now, but over all I’m happy with wordpress and it will take something big to get me back onto MT.
