I have been using NetVibes to stay updated with the blogs i read since i reviewed the service in April 2007. Up until now i have been very happy with the site however in the last week or so i’ve had problems logging onto the site and feeds have taken a while to update on my main page.
Have any readers who use NetVibes had a problem with this recently? Below is an pic of showing you what i see when it doesn’t load :
The Alternatives
I know that Bloglines is popular however i’ve become a big fan of the way NetVibes works…ok, im just stuck in my ways and i fear change!!!
Tech Blogger Brian Heys has been writing a lot about feedreaders recently. He wrote about My Yahoo a few days ago and he has also covered NetVibes, PageFlakes and iGoogle.
At first glance PageFlakes seems to be the closest to the way NetVibes works and the design is practically idential however i’d prefer to go with a bigger company - maybe im just paranoid because NetVibes has been unreliable for me the last week or so. Brian seems to be very unimpressed with My Yahoo so im gonna give iGoogle a go (he’s wrote some very good reviews recently so i trust his judgement
).
I’d love to hear readers opinions on the feedreader’s they use. Are there any good feed reader sites i have missed out?
thanks,
Kevin

I use Google Reader. It’s simple, but effective and that’s all I want for a feedreader. No fancy features one would never use, just the basics = Perfect (for me)!

I recommend you GreatNews [you can find it on a simple google search :)]. I use it and it’s really ok. this of course if you want an application.
for web-based news reader - I don’t know, I once use netvibes, but after that I preferred using an EXE [as I said] “GreatNews” [freeware & portable] - i take it after me everywhere.
I have around 150 feeds in it and i’m pleased - honestly.
[and no, this is not a comment added for advertising :p]

I prefer to use Google Reader. I read over a hundred feeds, so this is best for me. This doesn’t seem to be the type of interface you are used to, but I recommend checking it out.

Another Google Reader user….best of luck with your decision.

I like to use Google Reader, it works very well and can be used offline via Google Gears, there is also a Grease Monkey script that can then be added to make it searchable. Also you can add it to its own tab in iGoogle rather than just running it in a small widget.
You can read my most recent review of this on my blog.

I also use Netvibes and have experienced the same problems you’ve been having lately. Very slow loading, not updating etc…
Seems to be a bit more stable at the moment with no major problems that i can see so i’m going to stick with netvibes for the time being as it’s the only newsreader i’m use to..

I also had the same problems, but it loaded fine after few seconds. I closed and then logged on again, it was ok.

Add me to the list of Google Reader fans… it doesn’t have all the bells and whistles of something like netvibes but it does everything I need a feed reader to do.

I’ve never used anything but Google Reader, but I’ve always been happy with it.

I’m using NewsFox
, which is an add on for the Firefox browser. With this you don’t need to have another program running and it seems to work good. It doesn’t have a search feature but I don’t need one. I was using the built in reader from the Opera browser before which worked good too and has a search.
