Top 10 mistakes new bloggers make
Blogging I’ve started to notice the same mistakes recurring by new bloggers. Infact, most of these mistakes are applicable to everyone who starts a website for the first time. Unfortunately, there is a learning curve with this kind of thing and the majority of new bloggers will only learn from making these mistakes. Very few will realise that they are actually making mistakes until further down the line. I have decided to list what i consider to be ...
Continue readingThe importance of having keywords in your domain name
Search Engine Optimisation This blog has been online since March 2007 but since i changed the domain from bloggingtips.org to bloggingtips.com the blog had a little setback with regards to page rank and getting a good placing in the search engines. This didn’t really bother me too much as the site wasn’t online too long before the last PR update and the extra few months has given me more time to build up backlinks and content for the spiders to enjoy! With ...
Continue readingHow to deal with bloggers who are trying to sneak onto the top commenators list
Blogging The top commentators list is a great way to reward those who contribute to your blog. However, it can easily be abused and before you know it you are rewarding terrible commentators instead of those who are taking the time to write good comments to your posts. In the last two months i have noticed this happening on Blogging Tips around the second week of the month. Someone turns up around this time, leaves very short and poor quality comments on ...
Continue readingDisplay the total number of comments your readers have left
WordPress Plugins The eagle eyed amongst you will notice that in the comment area on Blogging Tips i have added a small line of text which displays the total number of comments that the commentator has left. I actually believe that this is a very useful plugin. It shows you and other readers how often someone comments on your site. This is an easy way to remind you which bloggers are commentating frequently on your blog. The plugin is called Featuring ...
Continue readingLinks Roundup – June 26th 2007
Links Another week of links from the crazy world of blogging Opinion Blogs vs Discussion Blogs – A great post from Daniel from Daily Blog Tips. At the moment i would say Blogging Tips is an opinion blog but i have written posts that are discussion based. Faddys money earned Report – A roundup from a new blog i found called Fingers Dont Fing. The owner covers a range of subjects and her sense of humour and frequent pics make the blog an ...
Continue readingWhen is the best time to post?
Blogging The best time to publish your post is something a lot of bloggers don’t spend too much thinking about however it can be a factor of a blogs success. Not a huge factor in my opinion however it certainly does make a difference. Take tech sites like Engadget and Gizomodo for example. They tend to post a few posts in the morning and then a few more before lunchtime, with some more posted later in the day. It should be pretty clear why they do ...
Continue readingAre you happy to cut out the middle man?
Making Money An advertising network is simply a middle man between someone who wants to sell advertising and someone who wants to advertise. In return the middle man gets a fee for providing this service. This fee is normally a percentage of the advertising cost however it depends on the site. Sites such as ReviewMe, Text Link Ads, Sponsored Reviews and Pay Per Post are hugely popular amongst bloggers. Unlike Google Adsense and Adbrite and similar ...
Continue readingI recommend upgrading to WordPress 2.2.1
WordPress I read a week or so ago that WordPress has released version 2.2.1 but i didn’t think it was worthwhile upgrading so soon after updating to 2.2.0. However, after reading Chris Stark’s post on the subject i decided that it was worth upgrading to the latest version. As per Chris’s post : Here are some of the bug updates provided by this new version: Widget compatibility issue fixes Atom feed fixes Improvements to Page and Text ...
Continue readingTechnorati’s new look sucks big time!
Around The Blogosphere I’ve not logged into the home page of Technorati but when i did get a chance today i was a bit dissapointed. Technorati have changed the look of the site and in my opinion it really does suck balls. They’ve got the latest blogs scrolling along the top of the page (which is very late 90′s in my opinion) and the main area of the home page looks like a complete rip off of YouTube. Am i the only one who hates this new design?
Continue reading10 things you can do to your blog on a weekend
Blogging Every weekend,(this may sound bizzare), i pay an evening visit to my office, just to make sure that my weekend tasks are all completed and i have no left overs. This may be on the way to the club or after my weekend shopping spree. Well, i know it sounds bizarre, and some of you may already be thinking what a jerk I am. Well, i must admit that i am some kind of a jerk to do that, but i find it very helpful. One thing is that every Friday evening, ...
