In the last week i have seen e-books released from two blogs i subscribe to. Namely, John Chow and Yaro Starak. Both of these e-books are free to download and both of them talk about making money through blogs.
John Chow E-Book
John’s e-book contains affiliate links to the ad networks he recommends and a lot of references to his blog however this doesn’t personally bother me as the download is free and contains a lot of great tips. If you read his blog a lot you may find that quite a lot of the content has been rehashed from the posts he has made on his blog but this isn’t too much of a negative in my opinion as there was a lot of tips i had missed before. The e-book has 59 pages and is about 1.8mb in size in total - it has some great tips so it’s definately worth a download.

Yaro Starak E-Book
Yaro’s e-book has no affiliate links and the content has not been taken from his blog (he states this in his post about the e-book and i cant see any info to the contrary) however the e-book is about a third of the size of John Chow’s. It has a much more professional feel though with more pictures and diagrams etc.
The download uses an autoresponder system so any email you use to download the e-book will probably receive updates about the book in the future.

Which E-Book is best?
It’s difficult to compare the e-books in my opinion. Whilst they both give advice about making money through blogging they both do so in a different manner. If you read either John Chow’s Blog or Entrepreneurs Journey you will have an idea of the difference i am referring to.
Thankfully there is no need for comparison, both e-books are free to download and both will have a lot of advice you will have missed before so i stongly recommend taking the time to download both and read them at your leisure.
thanks,
Kevin

I think the biggest difference between the two is Yaro’s is really more of an introduction to his mentoring program. John Chow’s is basically a 50+ page summary of his blog posts.
If someone doesn’t really read John’s site on a daily basis, it would definitely be a great way to jump in and get up to speed right away.

I think I preferred Yaro’s ebook more. It just felt more structured to me and I got a bit more out of it. Both were very good, but I got into Yaro’s more.

I blogged about the same here.

Hey thanks for recommending my book along with John’s.
I think John has some great advice in his book and he’s one of the top performing blog earners, so it’s worth checking out too.
Not that size matters
- but I think you should clarify about the size differences between our books.
Mine might be 600k and John’s is 1.5MB in terms of file size, but in page number count they are almost the same at 55 (mine) and 59 (Johns).

I’m reading the Chow’s book. It is really nice, but most things you can find in his blog. I’m gonna take a look at the Yaro’s book too.

This two resources could possibly be the “MUST READS” for new people starting out. If you have a bit of a coding background and some general experience it will only benefit you that much more.
Thank you to both John and Yaro for investing the time to put these two e-books together!

thanks for clarifying that Yaro
have you had much feedback back about the ebook yet?
Jonathan-C. Phillips | June 1st, 2007 at 11:33 pm #
I finished reading both ebooks, and I must say I enjoyed both, but liked Yaro’s ebook slightly more. I like the profesionnal “feel” his ebook has, but John definitely knows his stuff too!
2 great ebooks, must reads!

Kevin - Yes, the feedback has been awesome, very rewarding for me. I’m seeing lots of posts all over the blogosphere and nothing but positive comments at my blog too.
Definitely worth taking the time to write it.

They’re both quite interesting. I think Yaro takes a more theoretical approach to blogging, while JC is more about the practical. Neither sides can be ignored!

good to hear Yaro - hopefully we will see another one in the near future

Mr Starak’s book is so much better. Chow’s book is like going through a list of affiliate links.
Ok I’m gonna stop commenting now, because i can see that i have single handedly hijacked the recent comments list.

Mr. Chow’s book can be used as a dictionary to some more complex and and the same time concentrated work around most of the resources in that field, but sometime we think it’s good to have some fun and Starak will provide some entertaiment in his way, which is quite fun

Chow gets bashed a lot as being a pretty worthless blogger as far as getting quality content goes. He’s good at what he does sure, but is he really THE one to be reading? Um, not sure.
