Looks like you're offering hosting services too. So I shouldn't get both hosting and a domain from your 815domains.com site?

Hi Kevin,

Ive been doing a lot of research and I am still stumped on which domain registrar to register my domains with. I refuse to go to godaddy because ive read a lot of article saying that people had issues with transferring their domains to another host. I only want to purchase my domain for the moment, Im not looking for hosting at the moment. Someone recommended domain.com, I started the process, but Im scared because I know I will be transferring to another host once I finish building my site.

Do have a recommendation for an accredited registrar? Ive gone on Icann, but there are so many choices and the ones I looked up, again, had negative reviews. Please help.

Is there anyway to get a domain from the company that controls all Domains’s so you own everything about the domain?

Does anyone know the name of this company?

Thanks for this information, I never realised. I currently have two domains under a hosting company. I think when they expire I'll see about transferring them over to go-daddy or something. I've been using go-daddy for years, but used the hosting company this time for convenience.

Delighted to come across this blog, Kevin, and this is a very valuable post. I've had domains since 1998 or so and never realized the hierarchy in the contact names. I do all my business currently with GoDaddy mainly because they have a brick and mortar business and they make the registrant info very clear. A domain name for a money maker blog is _not_ the place to try to save $0.99, of so I think, anyway.

linux is the most common and is the system i have always used. They used to say it was more robust a few years back but im not sure if there is any major difference between them now.

I'm currently looking for a hosting company for my blog. Just like to know, what's the difference between window hosting and linux hosting, does it depend on what system I use or the names come from the systems they use?
