Wow, thats cool.
I am in domain business since 2 years and I've traded more than 200 domains in these 2 years and according to my experience you get this domain for very cheap.

Congratulation. I would happily invest 2000$ on this domain. Really.

i mentioned in my post that it was a little bit of cat and mouse. i have to admit, i was the one being a little sneaky :)

not in a bad way mind you

what i made sure was that they didnt know who i was - ie. they didnt know that i had anything to do with bloggingtips.org. after speaking to him on the phone i dont think its something he would have bothered about however i was concerned that if he knew who i was and that i owned this site he may realise that i badly want the domain....if not now then later. and if i dont someone else will.

so i emailed from a blog site email i set up for my brother. i have identity id on the domain so there was no way he could see it was me.

obviously this charade was dropped when we established a price.

i used to buy and sell a lot of domain names...most from domains of sites i was going to start and then got side tracked with another project.

i cant blame anyone who does raise the price though. if you have a .com domain and the .net or .org owner wants the .com, if he doesnt give you the price you want, why sell? bad for the buyer but the seller holds all the keys

That's a good point Kevin. I hadn't thought about the cost of the .com just going up as you work on the .org. I guess when you look at it that way, you bought at the right time. I'll be keeping an eye on you over here to see how things go ;)

thanks josh. i knew i wasn't going to get it cheap. the guy who had it was a domain trader who owned thousands of domains. these guys are more than happy to be patient and wait til a substancial offer comes in.

again, i stress i was happy to pay the price as the .com domain would have increased and increased the more i developed the .org site

Good domain . . . steep price. Good luck. I hope you see some kind of return on investment.
