From the very start of this blog i have been trying to secure the .com version for this blog. Yesterday, i finally got my name and secured my identity.
BloggingTips.org….BloggingTips.com
It was a little bit of cat and mouse at first but we finally agreed upon a price of $1250. Some of you might think that this is expensive however im happy with the price. The more i work and promote this blog, the more i was driving the value of the .com up and up. I knew all of this when i decided upon the BloggingTips name but i also wanted to get the site started.
It does mean my search engine rankings may be affected for the first few months for the .com version of the domain but long term, its more than worth it
Anyways, im off to pat myself on the back ![]()

That’s a good domain to have under your belt - but OUCH - $1250 for a blogging domain? You must have some seriously big plans over here

Good domain . . . steep price. Good luck. I hope you see some kind of return on investment.

thanks josh. i knew i wasn’t going to get it cheap. the guy who had it was a domain trader who owned thousands of domains. these guys are more than happy to be patient and wait til a substancial offer comes in.
again, i stress i was happy to pay the price as the .com domain would have increased and increased the more i developed the .org site

That’s a good point Kevin. I hadn’t thought about the cost of the .com just going up as you work on the .org. I guess when you look at it that way, you bought at the right time. I’ll be keeping an eye on you over here to see how things go

i mentioned in my post that it was a little bit of cat and mouse. i have to admit, i was the one being a little sneaky
not in a bad way mind you
what i made sure was that they didnt know who i was - ie. they didnt know that i had anything to do with bloggingtips.org. after speaking to him on the phone i dont think its something he would have bothered about however i was concerned that if he knew who i was and that i owned this site he may realise that i badly want the domain….if not now then later. and if i dont someone else will.
so i emailed from a blog site email i set up for my brother. i have identity id on the domain so there was no way he could see it was me.
obviously this charade was dropped when we established a price.
i used to buy and sell a lot of domain names…most from domains of sites i was going to start and then got side tracked with another project.
i cant blame anyone who does raise the price though. if you have a .com domain and the .net or .org owner wants the .com, if he doesnt give you the price you want, why sell? bad for the buyer but the seller holds all the keys

Kevin,, a good blog
about ur view that .com helps in search engine is i think wrong.. i even wanted to get .com first thinking the same but after investigation and reading i didn’t find any clue that .com is ranked high .. so i opted to have my country level domain .com.np so my site is http://www.hem.com.np coz hem.com was not available ,,, Hem being my name…

fair point hem. though the com is definately much easier to brand - no doubt about it.

Wow, thats cool.
I am in domain business since 2 years and I’ve traded more than 200 domains in these 2 years and according to my experience you get this domain for very cheap.
Congratulation. I would happily invest 2000$ on this domain. Really.
