Video Blogging

I posted yesterday about personalising your blog. Brian Heys left a comment and then made a post about it himself entitled ‘http://brianheyswrites.com/2007/04/14/the-art-of-blog-personalisation/’. Brian added a podcast version of the post as well which you can find on his site. He is also considering starting a video blog.

Shortly after i found a great seo video on John TP entitled Make Your WordPress Blog Search Engine Friendly. The video is from Michael Gray of Wolf Howl.

At the start of the month i asked ‘Where to put the continue reading link?‘ .Since then i have been leaving out the more link so that users can browse the archives and read all the posts without having to click on continue reading links etc. In the video Michael explains that i should not be doing that at all and that the more link should be used in most of a bloggers posts.

The reason the more tag should be used it so that there is less duplicate entries on your site ie. when you make a post it is on the home page, the archives and on its own unique page. By using the more tag you are ensuring that the full post is only available once on your site so google wont penalise you for duplicate entries. Thats something i hadn’t thought about when i made my post about where to put the ‘continue reading’ link.

In his comments he goes on to say that :

Basically you only want the content to be available on one page of your site/blog. If the individual post exists in the “page archive”, “year archive”, “month archive”, and multiple categories you’re trusting google to figure it out (aka guess) at the best spot for the actual content.

Im going to look more into this subject before i decide on the more link however it looks like from now on ill be splitting posts up with the more link.

Through youtube i also found another person giving tips on wordpress etc called Ask The Blogger. You can see all of his videos here. Ive posted one of his videos below to give you a taste :)
