Do you help out your fans?

Do you provide the odd link or reference to sites who have made good comments about your site in their blogs? Do you help out your fans? The one thing i love about blogging is that bloggers aren’t reluctant to link to articles they like on other blogs. Even blogs which cover the same topic as their own.

Ive been involved in building websites since 2000. Since then i’ve noticed that a great majority of webmasters are reluctant to link to good articles if they are on ‘rival’ site. I have been guilty of this myself in the past (why send traffic to them i thought!).

Thankfully, blogging didn’t adhere to this habit. Bloggers happily list their favourite blogs in their blogroll and the majority of bloggers also link to articles on sites which cover a similar topic to their own.

I read recently that more and more blogs are becoming more like business sites like blogs (eg. blogs like Engadget). I hope that goodwill amongst bloggers remain.

Which leads me to the main topic of this post?

Do you help out your fans?

  • Do you leave comments on blogs which link to your posts?
  • Do you always link back to sites which add your site to their blogroll?
  • Do you occasionally reference or link to a site which links to you?

I started thinking about this the other week. BloggingTips is still very new however the site got its first comment a week or two ago. The comment was posted in reply to this post. I had posted a link to Liza’s new theme and she had dropped by to say thanks. Sure my first comment came from someone replying to a post i made about their site but i was still pleased. She mentioned that she had released another theme so i posted about it. It was a way of saying thank you whilst still posting a link i think my visitors would want to visit.

Do any of you do this? Do you like to repay those blogs who link to you and send traffic to you?

Id love to hear what other bloggers think about all this. 🙂
