Kevin MuldoonUsing pageslug in Wordpress

A feature that wordpress has and is sometimes forgotten about is the postslug feature. You can use it in posts but its probably more applicable to pages.

The postslug gives you the option of having nicer urls for popular and important pages within your blog.

Take for example our users online page. The page is called ‘No. of Visitors currently viewing blogging tips’ however the url address of the page is http://www.bloggingtips.org/useronline/. As im sure you’ll agree /useronline/ is much nicer than /no-of-visitors-currently-viewing-blogging-tips.

In short, it allows you to control the address in which a new page or post is posted. This can be beneficial for a number of reasons. It makes it easier for visitors to remember certain sections of your blog but it also gives you control over how your page is optimised in the search engines ie. you can target keywords etc

A lot of you might already be familiar with this feature and whilst its not exactly a fundamental part of wordpress, I hope that it has brought attention of it to those who you who have never used it :)
